Andrew & Hayley

I met Andrew through a mutual friend a few years back, and I got the pleasure of getting to meet his beautiful fiance, Hayley, on one of the happiest days of her life... when she became his fiance.

One of my favorite things about this particular proposal is that Andrew called me 6 months prior to make sure I was available. I can't believe he kept it a secret for that long! I can only imagine the anticipation though... now that's impressive.

Another favorite aspect of this proposal is that her ring was uniquely designed by including special different diamonds di-soldered from other important family members' wedding rings. So much meaning in one ring, that's pretty darn special! And how stunning is it?!!

Throughout the entire day, he took her around to places that were meaningful to them in an "amazing race" type fashion. Where they first met, had their first kiss, first became officially boyfriend and girlfriend, etc. Then ended in a special "someplace new" where I was hiding in the bushes waiting to capture the big moment :) Andrew acted as though he was taking photos of Hayley with Mt. Hood in the background, then for one of the photos he told her to turn around for another angle, and he was down on a knee. Such a sweet moment, the radiant smile and tears streaming down her face were priceless.

It was so wonderful to get to capture and be a part of this special day for these two! I'm beyond excited for you guys and can't wait to see what the future holds for you two.

Congratulations Andrew and Hayley! xoxo

Brandi & Dustin

Quite literally obsessed with these two!
I am SO excited that they stumbled across my work (through mutual friends, thanks Nicole and Tonicha!) recently and last minute booked me for their San Francisco wedding this September.
I was even more excited when Brandi mentioned that she may be interested in an engagement photo session with me prior to September as well. Mainly excited because it's just such a great way to get to know a couple, get to know their love story and general vibe, and just connect with them. I casually mentioned a couple of my favorite locations to shoot, Rowena Crest being my favorite but also the furthest, and when Brandi agreed to that - I already knew I was going to love them. We all know how much I love adventure and the PNW.

During our photos, when I found out that they were 5 years apart and mentioned "Wow, I had no idea - Dustin, you're so well spoken and mature," I just about died when he looked over and smiled at Brandi, and said "Well, I had to be if I wanted to get her." Gosh, they are the cutest. They met a few years ago, both being super successful in their real estate careers... Although Dustin did mention as a young teenager, he know exactly who the babe was working a couple stores down in the Vancouver Mall... it just took nearly a decade later to meet her through real estate in their adult lives and win her over.

I truly had so much fun getting to know these two. They are such sweet, caring, humble individuals and then you put them together, and they are just serious "couple goals." Everything from the way that Dustin looks at Brandi, to the way she reaches for his hand, to their obvious connection and chemistry together, -- looking at them just makes one want to fall in love. Roses, wine, picnics in stranger's orchards, views of the gorge, it was all so lovely and I am so happy to have been able to capture just a tiny bit of their love story. Plus, it was very difficult to NOT capture a good photo of these two, aren't they just the most stunning couple?! Something out of a fairytale, I'm convinced. Brandi and Dustin, I adore you two, thanks for being so fun!

Sydney and Chad

RPImagery-5441.jpg

Sydney and Chad had a beautiful, elegant wedding at the Foundry in Lake Oswego.

They started the day out by getting ready at the little hotel across the street, right on the water. The morning consisted of lots of girl time and many mimosas.

Their ceremony was right out on the water, and as they said their "I-do's," several folks out on their boats cruising by were even celebrating with all of us, hooting and hollering for them. It was a sweet and intimate ceremony. Cocktail hour was one of my favorite parts of the day, there were so many sweet couples, delicious appetizers, and all around happy people on a lovely deck sipping cocktails. The rest of the evening was definitely one of the greatest dance parties I've ever seen at a wedding. Their friends certainly know how to get down on the dance floor!

Sydney and Chad, thank you so much for choosing me to capture your beautiful wedding day. It has been a priviledge getting to know you guys, and I wish you the happiest life together!

Gabe & Madelyn

We started out Gabe and Madelyn's wedding day with Madelyn and her girls getting ready in her childhood bedroom that she grew up in... so cute... while they boys went out boating. It was a lovely, relaxing morning and my favorite part was her bridesmaids tearing up every 15 minutes. Sharing stories of the past, talking about the moments about to happen, Madelyn putting on her dress, so many tears.

There are so many favorites moments that I have from Gabe and Madelyn's wedding day. I'm just going to point out though that my favorite general theme of the entire day was FAMILY. I love how intertwined both Gabe and Madelyn's family and friends already are, but I guess that's what happens when you've been together for 7 years, since sophomore year of high school.

Gabe's family friends are already besties with Madelyn's family friends. Gabe's dad already treats Madelyn like the daughter he never had (truly... he only has 4 boys), Gabe makes Madelyn's mom laugh so hard (it's the cutest thing ever), and I love how both Gabe's dad and Madelyn's dad gave each other pats on the back and hugs continually throughout the whole day (see the photo of Gabe and Madelyn about to sign their marriage license and the dads hugging in the background as it's becoming official)! Truly though... the saying, "two families become one" was 100% in full effect already on their wedding day. So much family. So many tears. So many embraces.

From the beginning of the day until the end, EVERYBODY was embracing each other. Even throughout the entire evening of dancing.... and not even just the slow songs. Everyone constantly had their arms around each other, it was quite the celebration! Rightfully so, I took about 5x the amount of dancing photos that I normally take at a wedding.... and that's a lot. A favorite "embrace moment" was after the mother-son dance, the rest of Gabe's brothers came over and hugged their teary eyed mama, then Gabe's dad joined in, and then Madelyn, and then Madelyn's parents, pretty soon it was a 25 person embrace.

Gabe and Madelyn, I can honestly say your wedding day was the SMOOTHEST, most laid back, most joyful wedding I've ever captured. I truly believe your wedding day was a perfect reflection of the way you two love each other. It's raw, it's goofy, it's warm, it's devoted, affectionate, and knows no boundaries. I love your love ;) It was a pleasure being a part of your day.
MUCH LOVE.

Rachel & Tyler

Rachel and Tyler got married on a beautiful July early evening at one of my favorite Seattle area venues, Trinity Tree Farm, in Issaquah, WA.

These two have an infectious kind of love that truly stems from friendship. Their officiant, and also friend, that married them had the kindest things to see about their commitment and friendship together. Rachel's mom spoke about their relationship being rooted in not only a solid friendship, but also Christ as well. Hearing from so many of their loved ones at the reception was a true testament to how treasured these two are by their friends and family.

Rachel had every detail of the day planned to perfection, and it was perfectly executed, as well! I've never seen a bride do it so well all on her own. Rachel, you are amazing!

Thank you guys for trusting me to capture this beautiful day for you guys, and all of the special moments that happened. It was a true honor! You two have such an admirable relationship, I can only imagine how blessed you will be in your marriage and journey together for the rest of your lifetime. Congratulations!

BE SURE TO CHECK OUT SOME OF MY FAVORITE PHOTOS FROM THE TALENTED PHOTOGRAPHER OF THEIR DAY, JAKE LAND:

Dane & Angie

Two of Western Washington University's most athletic alumnis and Bellingham's finest tied the knot and I couldn't have been more honored to capture their amazing day!

Dane was co-captain of our WWU Vikings Basketball team in 2014 while Angie was a star and co-captain of the volleyball team. These two are a dynamic duo to say the least, I can only imagine how athletic their kids will be ;)

Anyways, on to their BEAUTIFUL wedding day. Angie and Dane got married on Angie's parents property, where Angie grew up, and as she says "is the place who made her who she is today, where she learned to ride a bike and home of so many other firsts."  It sounds like their was a lot of hesitation in the beginning of wedding planning whether to host 200 guests on their home property or not, but I am so glad they went with it! It turned out so spectacular, and incredibly special. Their property, complete with pond, in Lynden, WA is beyond beautiful, and was truly the perfect setting for their wedding day.

Talk about beautiful... Dane and Angie. The couple that didn't want to have an engagement session because they are "not good" and uncomfortable in front of the camera? PLEASE. I forced them to have a mini photo session the night before their wedding, at their rehearsal, because I couldn't myself. They are too beautiful! Am I right, or am I right?

It was fun to see how everything came together so well. Their shop was transformed into this magical little country western atmosphere, complete with hay bails, cowhides, boots, and bourban. A special champagne bottle was popped, toasts were made, and the celebration carried on through the entire evening.

My favorite part of this wedding day was how much I felt God's presence through it all. From the relaxed morning Angie and her bridesmaids had getting ready, to the laid-back flow of the entire day, to the way Dane simply looks at Angie, to the examples of both of their parents' marriages, and in the way every single friend and family is in full support of their union. Specifically, my favorite "God moment" of the day was during the ceremony, when Dane and Angie quietly prayed together... in front of 200+ of their friends and family, but were completely in their own little world, in a perfect moment with God. It was so beautiful, I cried. Not uncommon for me though, ha.

My other favorite moment of the day was when I dragged the two of them away from their party so I could capture more pretty sunset photos of them, and Dane simply asked if they could just sit on his tailgate. Angie let out a big sigh of relief, smiled and kissed her new husband. Professionally speaking... the truck wasn't my first choice, "not what I had in mind, Dane"... but how could you say no to that? They were so stoked to have a beer on his tailgate together, just the two of them, newly husband and wife. It was a neat moment, and actually some of my absolute favorite photos from the day. From this, I learned that it's not always about the perfect background, but the perfect moment. Noted. Thanks, Dane!

Dane and Angie, thank you for letting me capture one of the best days of your life! You are a truly beautiful couple, both inside and out. You compliment each other so well, and are the definition of "couple goals." I adore you guys, and can't wait to see what God has in store for your marriage!

Austin & Katie

I've known Austin since he was about 6 years old... running around Zion Lutheran Church's play area. I have this one image in my mind from our childhood of him sliding down the 5 foot slide and showing his friends "how it was done." Haha!
Anyways, seeing him as a young man now and watching him love Katie is probably my favorite new image. These two are MEANT for each other. Katie and Austin actually grew up around each other, their mothers being best friends, and Austin playing on Katie's brothers' little league teams, having sleepovers, and whatnot. They didn't actually date until Austin decided to ask her out one day when they reconnected in their college years. Anyways, you can watch their love story film to learn more about that... On to their magical wedding day!
Youngberg Hill Vineyards is one of the prettiest places I've shot at. Epic views! They wed with a glorious backdrop behind them, both a green valley and a beautiful floral cross. Their vows were so intimate, their mothers' tears were so sweet, and Katie's father's toast in particular was one for the books! The party was such a fun celebration, Katie and Austin are incredibly loved by all of their friends and family... it is so evident in the hugs and embraces and conversations between everyone!

Katie and Austin, thank you for trusting me to capture your wedding day. I love the way you two love each other. It's sweet, tender, flirty, genuine, and STEADFAST. Your journey has only just begun! Love you guys. XO

Why You Should Invest in Wedding Videography

Wedding photography has been around for decades. And yes, so has wedding videography. But my oh my, have both completely transformed over time.

I've been a wedding photographer since 2009, so with everything you're about to read, please keep in mind that I do understand how important wedding photography is. I'm not discounting having your day captured in photos, BY ANY MEANS! That's obviously very important.

But then again, I think about my own wedding and when I (eventually...maybe... one day, ha!) get married, and if I was forced to choose between photography and videography, I, without a doubt in my mind, would choose videography.

I mean, think about it, why do you need wedding photography? So you can remember the day via photos yes, maybe print some and hang on your wall, have a kodak moment to show your grandkids. But let's be real, you cannot wait to blow up all your friends' and families' social media with your favorite photos from your wedding day, and don't forget - throw on that wedding hashtag!! Social media, great. Is that why photography is more important than videography? I don't know, I'm really trying to get down to the bottom of why the majority of our brides think videography is not nearly as important as photography. Okay yes, maybe having videography and no photography is a little dramatic, but it's honestly somewhat true... I think I really would choose videography. And let me tell you why:

Once I discovered and starting playing around with the video settings on my camera (in 2012) that I had been solely using for photography, I began noticing how much more authenticity comes with video vs photos. I started figuring out how much more raw emotion that I could capture, how many more elements could actually be grasped in time with video, i.e. sound, movement, reactions, etc. It's 100% different than photography in my opinion. Okay, maybe 99%.

I've been inspired to write this blog post from several interactions that I've had with brides over the last few years. Mainly the ones that inquire about my wedding photography, and when asked about their videography situation, they respond with, "We aren't having videography. We didn't budget for it. We don't want it." Ummm, come again?!?! You don't want the greatest day of your life, the day you've dreamed of since you were a little girl, captured on video? You don't want to be able to re-watch it for the rest of your lives? You don't want your children to be able to watch it years from now? Your grandchildren? You don't want to be able to go back and re-listen to your vows to each other? Re-watch your dad walking you down the aisle? Re-feel the emotions you felt during your first dance? Re-live your wedding day?! People!!! It hurts my heart. Seriously. I don't even know you, but it's a heartbreaker when you tell me you're not going to have wedding videography at your wedding. And I'm not saying it has to be me, either. HIRE A WEDDING VIDEOGRAPHER! ANY PROFESSIONAL WEDDING VIDEOGRAPHER! And my heart will be happier for you. And no, having your great aunt film with her camcorder or your brother's best friend run around with his go-pro is SO, so not the same. Not by a long shot.

Your wedding day, a.k.a. what you have planned, thought about, stressed over, and counted down to for at least 6 months if not close to a year, or more, goes by SO fast. In the blink of an eye, if you will. I'm not exaggerating. I mean it doesn't for me, but it does for you, haha, trust me. I've worked with over 75 brides and they all say the same thing, every time. It goes by so fast. Why would you not invest in a highlight video to help you remember the best day of your life that flew by so quickly? I'll stop questioning you now and let you dive into more reasons...

The proof is in the words of real-life brides; all sorts of brides, both who regret not having video and ones who did invest in video:

"If you were to ask me what my most favorite thing about our wedding was - aside from marrying my best friend and enjoying the day with loved ones - it would be reminiscing on all of the special moments over and over again through our wedding video. You spend months on planning every little detail. And as I'm sure you've heard before... it flies by! Having a wedding videographer was hands down the best wedding investment we made. Yes, photos are wonderful. You can display them through out your home but when you get to relive the emotions, the smiles, the tears, the dancing, the speeches and your vows... it is simply priceless. Having all of those memories wrapped up in our wedding video is something we will cherish forever. I am so happy we chose to have a videographer. Even happier we had Rachel and her team." -Tonicha

Film produced by RP Imagery - www.rpimagery.com To see photos from their wedding day, please visit my blog: http://www.rpimagery.com/blog/2016/6/23/mike-lauras-wedding Mike and Laura are a dynamic duo. They exude so much energy, positivity, kindness, and joy as individuals... and then you put them together, and you have this infectious couple that everyone just wants to be around. They are also MADLY in love. I knew the first time I met with them (via Facetime since they live in London!) that their wedding day would be nothing short of a fairytale. That it was! Like I mentioned, Laura and Mike live in London. To plan this amazing Seattle celebration from a different country is first of all - hard to do - but I could not believe how amazing it turned out!! I mean I knew it was going to be good... but their wedding celebration was truly phenomenal! Everything came together entirely well. Their guests came from all over the world, so it was only fitting that the wedding was travel/global inspired. It was very neat to see a combination of different family and friends from so many places come together and celebrate Mike and Laura the way they did. The live band was magnificent and the joy on everybody's faces lasted all night long. The evening got even more entertaining when we had some very special British guest appearances! See for yourself in the video ;) I was so humbled to meet so many people from around the world, whom who were all so kind and friendly. "Hands down the biggest regret in my wedding planning was not getting a videographer. It was such an amazing day of friends, family, laughter, and love. It's cliche, but the day goes by faster than anybody can ever describe, so fast in fact that to me it almost felt surreal. When I spent the days following thinking about our special day, there were so many details and special moments I felt I missed, and I desperately wished I had a gotten a video to help me re-live this amazing day. This is the part of the story where I consider myself a very, very lucky girl.  You see, Rachel had secretly filmed our wedding and surprised us with the most wonderful wedding gift of a video of our day! Watching for the first time her amazing work was so emotional. Being able to witness the moments we missed, to actually hear the laughter, and to watch all the love and dancing in motion truly brought the whole day together. We have watched it countless times since, including in celebration of our one year anniversary this past weekend, and each time it brings our amazing day to life again. To experience the joy of receiving this video after the extreme regret I felt for originally not having one, is a truly unique and priceless experience. With this, I can say with all my heart, getting a wedding video and being able to re-live your day is something you will never regret and will cherish forever." -Laura
(See Laura and Mike's reaction below when I first told them I had a video of their wedding day)

Mike and Laura live in London, they planned one of the most beautiful Seattle, WA wedding celebrations I've ever experienced... from across the country. I was so impressed! As some of you may or may not know, I do both wedding photography and videography and for their wedding in particular I was hired for photography only. We had discussed the possibility of videography as well, but in the end Mike and Laura had decided it wasn't one of their bigger priorities, and had said it was a no-go. I, however, KNEW their wedding was about to be an EPIC event and that there is no way there wasn't going to be any video from this day to remember it by... This is just not okay!! Luckily, I also had the rare opportunity to have a few extra hands at their wedding, which I told Mike and Laura were just "interns I was teaching," and we totally pulled off secretly filming their wedding (while also photographing of course). After delivering their wedding photos a few weeks after their wedding, I was overwhelmed with all of the kind words and gratitude Mike and Laura had about them! Little did they know, I was also working on their wedding FILM they didn't know they had coming too.... So I found it particularly rewarding when Laura added these words at the end of her email "I am sure I won't be the first bride to say this but I totally regret not getting your video package. I feel like I didn't see my own wedding, if that makes sense? I suppose I am looking for the guests experience and haven't yet realized I was the bride and don't get to do that." So here we are 2 months after their wedding and I Face-timed this sweet couple a few days ago to tell them I had a little surprise for them. I couldn't help but record their reaction because honestly these two are some of the most genuine, sentimental, caring, and compassionate people I've met. I wanted to remember their reaction (for myself) as a sweet little reminder of why I do what I do. However, their reaction was too good that I ended up asking them if I could share... despite having just got back from a run and not feeling in their prime... they luckily agreed to let me share hehe ;) (Even though I think they are the most darling couple no matter what they look like!) "I do wish I hadn't just gone for a run and wasn't sweaty and un-showered, but I seriously want every bride to know how much they MUST get a wedding video!" More words from the bride: "I seriously can't thank you enough for this gift. I can't describe what being able to see our wedding means to my memory of the day. It all goes by so fast and I am such a visual, detail oriented person that I feel like I didn't see our wedding or that what I imagined for so long during the planning process actually happened. This video filled in all those "holes". It literally completed my wedding experience and it is so, so beautiful. I will cherish it forever (and watch it over and over and over!) :) " HUGE THANK YOU TO STEPHANIE LAMPKIN AND LACY ARTHUR FOR HELPING ME PULL THIS OFF! "Definitely, definitely recommend a videographer. Having a videographer capture our wedding was the best money we spent! So amazing and emotional to be able to go back and “re-live” one of the best days of your life, over and over.  So many amazing details from our wedding day were captured that we would have otherwise missed out on or forgotten in all the craziness if it wasn’t for having a videographer.  The day truly does fly by, having pictures is great but being able to watch all those pictures come to life is something we are extremely glad we decided to do.  I have watched mine several times, it takes me right back to that day, still brings tears to my eyes and I’m always noticing something new. You will not regret hiring a videographer!" -Jeni

*BE SURE TO WATCH IN HD* When I think of Matt and Michelle, and then their wedding day, the one word that I keep coming back to is BLESSED. I am SO blessed to have met these two, blessed to have been in Hawaii, capturing their wedding day, and even more blessed to have them remain in my life as dear friends. They are truly some of the sweetest, most kind-hearted people I have ever met. Their wedding day was incredibly low-key, yet so classy, elegant, and authentic at the same time. Just as a destination wedding should be, in a dream-world! Yet this was real life. Stephanie and I were blown away by the amount of love that surrounded these two the entire week that we were there. Not only are they SO, so loved by all who know them... but their love for each other is captivating. When I think of two people who couldn't be MORE meant for each other in this entire world, I think of Matt and Michelle. They are a true epitome of what a humble, Godly, passionate, and sincere relationship should be. Truly, I could go on and on and on about these two... but Matt and Michelle, THANK YOU for choosing me to capture your wedding day, from the bottom of my heart, I feel truly blessed to simply even be in this line of work so that our paths could cross. "Where do I begin about how special our wedding video is to us?! I'm pretty sure words don't exist to explain how it felt to watch our video for the first time. It brought tears to our eyes and captured all of the moments that went by so quickly on our wedding day! The wedding video is cherished by both of our families and filled with some of the best memories and the start to our life together. We decided to have a destination wedding in Hawaii! Which was SO fun, but also very expensive! I didn't realize the limitation of vendors on an island and things added up so quickly! My husband and I had many discussions about where to cut corners and save money - I specifically remember us having a discussion about the need for video. He was completely against it. He thought the pictures would be beautiful and all we needed, and he saw it as an opportunity to save money! Trust me it's was not easy for me to pull out a win on this topic against a financial advisor.  Every now and again my husband and I still watch our video. Just last week he said to me, of all the things that we did for our wedding, the video was the BEST decision we made! I honestly couldn't agree more. The pictures are so special and meaningful but can't capture the feel and intimacy of the wedding! Every time we watch our video we are reminded of the support and love of everyone who shared our day with us. Your wedding day goes by so fast and I remember trying to live in each moment of the day. After I watched our video a few times (ok, 100 times) there were so many details or parts of the speeches that I didn't even remember happened until I was reminded by the video. The best advice I can give to any engaged couple is to have Rachel capture your wedding day through her amazing VIDEOS!" - Michelle

"We had seen Rachel's work through mutual friends since I went to college with her and knew we wanted to hire her for our engagement photos and wedding photos (and beyond!). We saw some of Rachel's videos and they were amazing- perfect shots, lighting, transitions, music and even the incorporation of a drone to help capture the setting. We did not put videography in our overall  wedding budget. Our photos turned out lovely, though I do know that having loved ones voices, our vows, laughs, tears and hugs on video would have been such a special gift for years to come." - Amy

"Having Rachel as my videographer was the BEST decision of my wedding planning! I can still watch the video almost a year later and cry because of all the emotion, excitement and love that she was able to capture in a short film. I love my wedding photos, but the video is able to capture so many more special moments. It's also great to watch in hard times to remind yourself how blessed you truly are!" - Kelsey

"Ford and I had the BEST wedding weekend / day. We were surrounded by all of our loved ones and in the most beautiful place. And we have the most gorgeous photos from Rachel, which totally captured it. I would have absolutely loved to have a wedding video which would have captured the weekend in a completely different way, however, my husband was very concerned about having cameras around. Neither one of us are comfortable in front of cameras and during such an important moment in our lives, I just wanted both of us to be completely comfortable, without fear of acting/looking awkward because we had video camera following us around. After living out our perfect day I really don't believe anything would have distracted us from enjoying that day. Seeing what Rachel has and can do with videos both my husband and I realized (too late) it would have been amazing to listen to our vows, the speeches, even songs that were performed on our day!  It would have been so special to share a video with our future children, on our ten year anniversary or any night we wanted to relive the most perfect day." -Kristin

"Hiring RP Imagery to do our wedding videography was one of our best wedding decisions. We have a timeless video that we watch and can share with our family and friends. We love reliving our special day each time we watch it. It was definitely money well spent. We would do it again in a heartbeat!" -Italia

"I got married 4 years ago, and I STILL regret not having our wedding day filmed. We thought it would be best to skip that expense back then, and we both really feel bummed we don't have the day to watch over and over and share with our kids in the future. Wedding photography is SO special and definitely a way to relive your day again, but it just isn't the same as watching the film. Wedding days are chaos, and a lot of the time brides don't even get to see and talk to everyone, and it is such a great way to capture everyone even if it is just seconds. Also, go and watch a wedding film of a complete stranger and tell me how that makes you feel! I cry every time and it is STRANGERS. I am a wedding photographer now, and I really encourage video to all my clients!" - Hillary

If there was ever one wedding where I just didn't want to leave and wanted to re-live over and over again, this would be it. Ashton and Aysha know how to throw a good party that's for sure! As the best man says, their love is infectious. Their wedding was full of laughter, love, friendships, family, tears, and joy. Truly. After the ceremony, they had an unplanned moment with just the couple and Ashton's siblings, honoring his younger brother who passed away recently. It was a moment that I will remember forever. Aside from that, you could just feel the JOY radiating from everyone there - Ashton and Aysha, your support system is THERE! Everyone at your wedding truly loves you guys and believes in you 100%… I could feel it, just witnessing it and being there, you guys are truly loved. Thank you guys for giving me the privilege of capturing your very beautiful and special day! I had an absolute blast, and am so lucky to now call you guys my friends! "When preparing for my big day I always knew that photography was the most important thing. Something to always look back on for one of the biggest days OF MY LIFE. When I met with Rachel she mentioned her videography. At the time, I really didn't know much about what it was or what it all entailed. Sadly, we had a strict budget because a lot of our wedding was coming out of our own pockets. I learned more about it, and kept thinking.. "I don't want to regret not doing anything, I mean you only get married once." In the end, we had the most beautiful pictures AND an amazing video. I have our wedding video link saved on my phone. I can't tell you how many times I've watched it, and still either cry, laugh or just reminisce on that day. I can tell you I am not the only one either! Our friends will text us and say "We watched your video, you guys should get married again, it was so much fun!" Rachel was able to capture our true love for each other. I love having this precious gift, one that I can have for our entire life. I can't wait to show our kids when they get older, and eventually our grandkids." - Aysha

While photos play such an integral role in preserving the memories from our wedding day, it can only tell so much of the story. Having video at our wedding would have been the perfect compliment to demonstrate the mood, the feeling of the ceremony and for us to hear our vows spoken to each other again. I think that's the one I wish I had the most -- hearing our vows to each other. Video captures movement in a way that photos can't." -Jessica

They are such a genuine, beautiful couple, with a love so deep you can feel it when they look at each other. Their "First Look" was one of my favorite in history - Jake got so emotional when he saw Brittany for the first time on their wedding day, it was the sweetest thing. And who wouldn't - she was stunning! They had a lovely, sentimental ceremony, followed by a fantastic party - all of their family and friends really knew how to get down on the dance floor... SO much fun! Thank you Jake & Brittany for choosing us to capture your wedding day, it was truly an honor. Music licensed by The Music Bed // themusicbed.com

"Having a video of our wedding day, was the best decision I could have made! We had a tight budget for our wedding, so we naturally had to pick and choose what was most important to us to have. And having a videographer was the BEST decision! Photos last forever... you hang them in your home, you look at them and smile. But our video, we watch each year on our anniversary and it literally brings both my husband and I right back to how we felt that day. It's easy to forget your emotions and utter bliss and having a video highlighting all of those best moments of one of the most important days of your life is priceless. Rachel, did such an amazing job capturing everything we could have ever wanted. I tell all my friends who are getting married, GET A VIDEOGRAPHER! Because truly, you won't regret it!" -Brittany

"As they say, the day goes by fast and it starts to all blur together. We didn't have a videographer for the whole day, just the ceremony, but I wish we did! To capture all the moments from the beginning to end. To capture the little things like first look, cake-cutting, or even just having fun taking pictures. I know down the road those memories will fade, and it would be have been nice to look back on them to keep the memories alive." -Stephanie

"I was so blessed to have Rachel capture our big day via photography. Looking back, I SO wish that we would have paid the extra to also have her do videography on our day. I've watched so many of her wedding films and almost all of them bring me from tears to smiles throughout. Pictures are a great way to capture your wedding, but video is so much more. It's a way to watch and relive everything from your day. My wedding day flew before my eyes and I wish that I had videos to go back and watch to relive all those moments. If you are a bride second guessing getting a videographer, please do it!" -Katie

It's easy to see, not only by the way Sean looks at Lacy, but also by the way he adores their little girl, Sloan! They seriously make up the most adorable, sweetest little family... I can't wait for them to expand ;) You're not the only one if you feel like they walked "straight out of a Bridal magazine," they are a stunning couple, but they are also the most kind, caring, and friendly individuals! I loved getting to know them, spending time with them, and capturing these moments for them. "Originally I did not intend to have a videographer for our wedding. It was not in the budget and I figured pictures would be sufficient. Fortunately, someone else (RP Imagery) knew better and we had a video created. As I sat there watching our wedding video, I was hit instantly with all the emotions of our big day. The wedding day went by so quickly that it was almost a blur. Being able to view our day unfold, experience the love and happiness over and over in our video is one of the biggest blessings ever. Now that I have a video of our wedding day, whenever I meet a soon to be bride, I tell her, "if you had to choose, photos or video, choose video and you will definitely not regret it." -Lacy

Additionally, I did a facebook poll, and out of 30 brides who took the poll, here are the results:

At the end of the day, it's your wedding and the decision is completely up to you. Obviously.
I'm just here to help you have no regrets. I contemplated writing this blog post because it's truly not my intention to force you to hire me. Honestly, not at all! The emails from brides not having videographers is currently driving me insane though, as well as a few recent weddings that I've been to that did not have a videographer. And they were EPIC weddings! I could not believe they wouldn't have a video of their wedding to look back on their epic day, ah I cringed!!

On the other hand, I posted my poll on facebook last week and had THREE bride-to-be's reach out and ask me who I recommended for a videographer... Uh, me?! They didn't even know I offered videography in additional to photography, and all three have hired me for their weddings this year! Within a few days. Thankful!

So hi people... I do videography, too! I am incredibly passionate about it. The dream would be to just be a destination wedding videographer. Hey, a girl can dream ;)

Anyways, whether it's me or not, please do yourself a favor and invest in a wedding videographer. It will be worth every penny and you will not regret it, 100% guaranteed.

God-daughter Love

Gracen and Avery, my two sweet god-daughters and most photogenic children ever. Luckily I had no place to live for a couple months prior to my move to Seattle, so I got to live with these girls and their momma -- my best friend, Kaylin. Avery would would wake me up and come snuggle me at 5:30am every morning, and Gracen would constantly ask if I could live with them forever. These two melt my heart and they truly can turn any bad day into a good one. I feel so fortunate to be able to have the relationship that I do with them, and to share so many memories with them.

We did a little photoshoot in their matching dresses for updated photos to hang on the wall, but the photos turned out so cute that I knew that I would eventually share them. Their spunky little personalities shine right through the photos, I just love it.

One day while living with them, I shut my door and tried to get a bunch of work done, and Gracen just came in and sat on the windowsill and said, "Rachel, can I sit in here with you while you work? I just want to be by you because I love you." How can you say no to that....... I picked up my camera because it was a sweet moment that I wanted to remember forever, Gracen seriously has the biggest heart I've ever seen for a 5 year old. But then, of course, monkey see monkey do, Avery wanted to come in and sit in the windowsill too, and it just turned into an all-around jumping, tickling, hugging, pushing, laughing festivity.

These two have grown up so fast before my eyes, I've made it a point to capture every stage that I possibly can. They are my favorite little humans, and I am so blessed to call them my god-daughters. They are very special girls.

Posting a million photos of them here because I haven't seen them in 2 weeks, and I miss them like crazy!

Taylor & Michael

I met Michael Keating freshman year of college. We remained friends all throughout college and I just adore this guy! He has the kindest heart, an infectious laugh, and is just a guy that everyone wants and loves to be around.

It was no surprise to me that I also adored his fiance, Taylor, right when I got to meet her, too. She is just as kind, and has the same infectious laugh that Mike does. They've been together for several years and said that they maybe had 5 pictures together so they warned me that this whole engagement session was going to be "new" for them. Pleeeeeease. They were naturals.

This first photo below is the very first image I snapped of them. That never happens. Usually it takes at least a good 10-15 clicks to even warm up to the camera. Seriously how adorable are they? They have such good chemistry, continuously make each other laugh, and it literally melts my heart the way that Michael looks at Taylor.

Shoutout to my friend Katie who assisted me on this shoot. You rock!
Oh and of course there was a pitstop mid shoot to pet some corgis.

Ashton, Aysha, and Amiyah

One of my favorite things about my job is that I get to watch and capture so many different chapters of my client's lives. It's pretty special to be able to witness their marriage vows at their wedding, feel a little baby kick inside her belly a year later, and then get to squeeze their beautiful little 8 month old another year later.

Aysha and Ashton, thank you for continuing to trust and choose me to document all of these milestones and precious chapters of your life! I feel truly honored.

Amiyah, you are the sweetest little chunk and I am so happy to have finally met you!

Cannot wait to capture this little beauty as she grows. Who knows maybe I'll still be shooting in 18 years to do her senior photos, and in 25 years to do her wedding, ha!

If I knew then, what I know now...

142A1687-2n.jpg

Thanks to a little "facebook memory" throwback, I realized yesterday that exactly 5 years ago, I was presenting my business plan to a board for my last project as a college grad. I was nervous, I was excited. It was a "mock" business plan, not intended for real life, but it's crazy to think back to how I was feeling in that moment and know that I had absolutely NO idea how far that business plan would actually take me in real life, or that it would actually COME TO LIFE!

Just for a back story, for those of you who don't know how this career got started for me, I picked up a camera for my digital photography class senior year of high school, and was simply completing the assignments to get the grade. I wasn't sure what I was going to do for my senior project at the time, and my digital photography teacher (shout out Doug Huegli) suggested that I take senior portraits for my senior project, as he enjoyed what I was doing with my individual class assignments. I figured, well I don't have anything else to do! So, I setup a fake little photography business and took about 10 senior's portraits for free, again, to complete an assignment. The next summer, I had people asking me to take their senior portraits, so I asked to borrow a camera from Doug again and was like "no problem people, I'm not doing anything this summer, might as well." Then, my dad had the GENIUS idea of "hey, maybe you should charge people for taking their portraits?" I was like WOW, great idea! Soon enough, I started making more money than I thought possible for how easy taking photos was. So, I bought my first Canon camera in 2008. The first photo I took with it was a selfie in a mirror (see above), and I think it's hilarious and awesome that I just remembered taking it and actually was able to find it on one of my 30 hard drives!

Anyways, I was definitely not intending to blog about this, but yesterday had me thinking all day how absolutely insane it is that all of this, my entire career, what I am most passionate about in life, all of this started with a little suggestion from Doug Huegli and my dad. Oh and my mom thought of the name "RP Imagery" for my senior project, so credit to my mother, too! My "business plan" that I created at the end of college, 4 years later, was also to complete an assignment... just get the task done... I 100% was not anticipating on actually using it.

And here I am.
I'm blown away with where these last 5 years have taken me, how many experiences I have had, how many epic places I have had the opportunity to travel to, and honestly - the truly genuine, amazing people that I have met along the way.

These are the most random photos ever because I went through facebook as fast as possible grabbing a few photos that when I looked at, I said to myself "I would not have met this person and/or I would not have traveled to this place if not for my photography/videography."

This is getting too long for something that was not even supposed to be a blog post, so I'm going to wrap it up with saying that I'm THANKFUL that I didn't know then, what I know now. I was naive, unexperienced, and had no idea what my life or career was going to look like, but I truly would not have it any other way. I could only hope that the next 5 years will look half as awesome for me as the last 5 years. Thank you Facebook Memories for taking me down memory lane.

Lauren & Christian

RPImagery-4810.jpg

Lauren and Christian are two peas in a pod. Lauren can't stop staring at Christian and telling him how handsome he is, and Christian can't stop kissing Lauren. They are so full of joy and laughter, I just adore these two. They were absolute naturals in front of the camera, too!

We had fun frolicking around downtown Tacoma and it was a pleasure getting to know Christian and Lauren.  I am so excited for their wedding next year!

Stephanie // Mission Hot Mama

I love when I get to do lifestyle/fitness photos for Steph. She is so spunky, sweet, and funny!

Stephanie grew up in my hometown but now lives in Montana. She has an awesome blog that you should go check out, especially if you're a mama trying to keep up with every day life and also take good care of yourself at the same time; "get your mojo back." Her blog is packed with tips and tricks, and she herself is one hot mama - her baby isn't even 6 months and Steph is fitter than I am! I mean, come on. So inspiring.

Her laugh is adorable, so in most of these photos you will find her laughing, but that's her in a nutshell, so I find it fitting :) Be sure to hop over to her BLOG to be inspired and to get motivated.

Oh and how BEAUTIFUL is her baby girl!?!

Dylan & Christina

I knew it was going to be a fun evening with these two when the first shot I took with my camera, they couldn't stop laughing. Like, really laughing. Hysterical laughing.

Dylan and Christina are so sweet, and SO much fun! They're spontaneous and down for just about anything. We traveled over to Merwin Lake and Speelyai Bay for their engagement session, and we were blessed with a beautiful day.

It was fun getting to know these two and I loved seeing how similar their personalities were to each other, they're just a hoot! I'm so excited for their wedding this fall.

Steve & Nicole

I was scheduled to take Steve and Nicole's engagement photos back in January. A few days prior to the scheduled date, Steve was in a tragic accident.

Without going into too much detail about his personal life - I'll just say that it's an absolute miracle that we were able to do this photo shoot now, here in May, when there were several instances throughout being in a coma for 50 days, that he was not expected to make it, then not expected to be able to function - walk, talk, eat - on his own, then not expected to be the same Steve, same person, if he did wake up. I followed along, in addition to almost 3,000 other people, with his family's devastating journey throughout Steve's time in the coma via a facebook page that his fiance, Nicole, was posting daily updates on. As heartbreaking as it was to hear about the several instances that doctors told the family they must say goodbye to Steve, it was incredible to see how many people were praying for, fighting for, and supporting Steve, Nicole, and their families throughout his entire battle.

It is my personal belief that Steve's waking up was all God's doing. God had a purpose for waking Steve up from his coma, for granting him more time here on Earth. I also believe it was a combination of things that actually brought Steve back as STEVE, against all odds...The thousands of people praying for Steve, his personal fight (he is basically the Hulk), and of course Nicole's unconditional, unwavering love for him.

I loved hearing about the stories of his small responses while in the coma to Nicole's voice and touch. I can't even imagine what Nicole was going through and how she was feeling, but she is certainly one strong woman! I think this quote perfectly describes them as a couple and what they have been through together in 2017 so far:

“Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength, while loving someone deeply gives you courage.” -Lao Tzu

Steve and Nicole, they say going through life's greatest challenges and obstacles together makes you a stronger couple. I can honestly say that getting to spend the day with you guys the other day, I can visibly see and feel that you guys are stronger then ever before. I love how you are the same light-hearted, fun-loving, sarcastic, and adorable Steve and Nicole - but with a different kind of depth now. Your love for each other is so raw and intentional, I admire every bit of it!

I couldn't help but post a million photos from their session, because they are too adorable and this photo session was incredibly significant in so many ways. Plus, I am just in complete awe at Steve's ability to function and do things in a matter of weeks that the doctors warned that he would possibly never do again in his life. In addition to the miracle in all of that, I just love the way he still looks at Nicole.

PS: Scroll down and check out Jessica Heron's AMAZING video that she put together from their shoot as well!! Huge thank you to her, as I asked her to tag along and surprise them with a video, too! :)

Oahu

Oh Hawaii, i love you.

All the places that I go, I typically imagine myself living there... and say to myself, "I could totally live here." But this time, I actually looked at some real estate. I grew up going on several family vacations to the different islands of Hawaii, but going there as an adult by myself this time, was a little different. I felt like I belonged ;)

It started with Steph asking if I wanted to go to Hawaii to help film her best friend's proposal. Dangerous question... if it's between October and April, and you ask me to go somewhere, I'm going. So of course we made a little vacay out of it and stayed in a Waikiki airbnb for 5 days. We met some fun locals on a catamaran that ended up taking us all around the island the next day. This, was actually one of my favorite days. Our new friend, Ikaika, drove us up and down the east side of the island, tailgating at his favorite beach spots, jumping off rocks, and ending the day with a treacherous, muddy hike up to the pillboxes, then jumping into the crystal clear, blue ocean at Lanikai beach afterwards. I floated on my back for a good 20 minutes in the warm ocean, with a little bit of rain falling, and I was in complete heaven. THAT was a perfect moment.

It basically only got better from there, as the day Steph and I were supposed to leave, we decided to ditch our flights and stay another day. One thing I'm getting REALLY really good at, is traveling somewhere and staying way past the original itinerary. We moved on to the Marriott Waikiki and soaked up more sun all day and had one more Lava Flow at our favorite barefoot bar, Dukes.

Once again, I couldn't leave. So when Steph left for the airport the next day, I rented a car and booked another 4 days at an airbnb outside of Waikiki, away from the hustle and bustle. First of all, cutest airbnb EVER! It really is the cutest studio cottage in paradise, and I can not rave enough about how perfect it is for a solo getaway. I arrived to a sweet note from Shawna, the owner, telling me she had all sorts of stuff for me to use during my stay (snorkel gear, beach chairs, bikes, etc) and letting me know there was a brand new outdoor shower in the back of the studio just for me, too ;) HEAVEN!

The next day, I actually got to meet Shawna and her sweet kiddos that live on the property as well, and she convinced me even more that I need to live in Hawaii. Such a sweet, awesome, laid-back, hang-loose type little family with cute, tan, barefoot babies. Serious family goals.

I took a day to drive around the island, made some friends up at North Shore, shared some delicious grilled shrimp tacos with them, and watched a perfect sunset at a "secret beach" that they showed me, to end that day.

My friend from home, Kyle, showed up a few days later, since his parents live in Lanikai, and we frolicked around some more, ate at some yummy restaurants, watched more sunsets, and spent way too many hours at Moose McGillycuddy's on a Tuesday night.

The day I actually decided I should probably come home was a sad one. So I made the most out of the minimal hours that I had left, got up at 4:30am for a sunrise hike, took the longest outdoor shower possible, and headed home. During the longest outdoor shower possible,  I reflected on how truly blessed I feel. Blessed to have a job that I not only LOVE, but that gives me so much free time to do other things that I love, like travel. And extend my trips. And meet such interesting, awesome people. And spend enough time in Hawaii to know my way around the island without GPS. And float on my back in the ocean for as long as I want without worrying about what's next. And crack a beer at the top of an epic hike because it's a Monday.

And to think, so many times in the last 5 years, my life could have gone a multitude of different directions. I am so happy and thankful to be HERE, in this season of life I'm living right now. Life is so, so good. Thank you outdoor shower for letting me reflect on all of that.

Hawaii, I'll be back for you sooner than you think :)

Nick & Kristen

Kristen had a work convention in Hawaii for a week and had asked her boyfriend of 8 years to join her for fun... Nick said he couldn't get the time off of work, unfortunately. So Kristen brought her mom instead.

Nick told Kristen's best friend Stephanie otherwise... he asked if she (Steph, Kristen's best friend) could come to Hawaii to be there because he planned to propose.

Stephanie told Kristen she was going to come to Hawaii the same week and hang out, and bring along me of course, since I can't say no to traveling. Kristen thought it all sounded dandy :)

Not going to lie, I am pretty impressed with Kristen's mom, Stephanie, and I's ability to keep a secret for 5 days hanging out with Kristen in Hawaii, leading up to the proposal.

Nick flew in on Saturday with his mom (we had been there since Tuesday), and we started walking through how he was going to propose and how the day would unfold.

Mid-afternoon, Nick was standing out on a pier with the ring, as Kristen and her mom walked down the beach - Kristen thinking she was meeting up with Stephanie and I to go on a boat. In order to get Kristen on the pier, Kristen's mom came up with a little story about baby turtles that she saw earlier, so Kristen headed down the pier (Nick being the ONLY person standing on the pier, at the end), in search of the baby turtles. Half way down, she stumbled upon Stephanie and I with our cameras out and pointing directly at her, and she simply thought nothing of it. She waved at us, "Oh hey guys! I'm just looking for the baby turtles my mom told me about it." Okay Kristen... Nick is literally standing 10 feet in front of her, and her head is still looking down at the water in search of the baby turtles. Good job Kristen's mom for the baby turtles story, totally distracted her, haha! Almost too much ;)

She finally looked up, and was in complete shock that Nick was standing right in front of her. He got down on one knee... and you know how it goes from there.

It was a completely blissful day, so much joy, and so much love. We ate a yummy lunch at Dukes after the big moment, and then we all celebrated on a catamaran afterwards.

Nick and Kristen, many congratulations! You guys are truly the definition of "couple goals" and I am so excited for you guys and the next chapter in your love story.

Check out the photos that Steph captured of the proposal below:

Snowy Mirror Lake Hike

Good Friday this year was a good friday, indeed!

I've been wanting to do the Tom, Dick, and Harry Mountain Hike on Hood this year, but have been waiting for the snow to get a little less intense. I thought it would be perfectly clear by mid April so we took our Seattle and Ellensburg friends to this hike when they were in town Easter weekend. To say we were a little unprepared is an understatement. I wasn't expecting any snow at all, haha! Oops. Luckily Steph and I just moved out of the house we were living in and had some extra snow gear in our cars that we hadn't taken out yet... perfect. Tom, Dick, and Harry trail was closed, or basically non-existent with the snow, but the trail to Mirror Lake was accessible.

We were the only ones out there and although it was a bit cold, we had so much fun. Michael and Tenielle are serious couple goals (honestly though, talk about two people that are perfect for each other and exude so much joy), so of course I snapped way too many cute photos of them that I had to share.

We celebrated Good Friday with a good ole' communion with Rainiers and a protein bar once we reached the lake. It was a good day on good Friday with good friends and good fresh mountain air. Unfortunately I came down with strep throat and a fever hours after the hike, but it was worth it ;)
